Children and Young people therapy and counselling
I offer a flexible and supportive space for children and young people to explore their emotions, experiences, and challenges. Using a blend of therapeutic techniques, I tailor sessions to suit each child’s unique needs. This might include sensory play, talking therapy, art, sand tray, movement, and more, creating an engaging environment where they feel comfortable expressing themselves.
Sessions typically include a review after 6 weeks, or we can arrange a review sooner if preferred. Parent/carer support sessions are available and can be really helpful alongside your child’s therapy, providing guidance and space to talk through any challenges at home. In some cases, it may be beneficial to include a parent or carer in the therapeutic process, especially with methods like EMDR—this can be discussed as part of our work together.
I also offer a waiting space for parents and carers while your child is in session, so you can feel at ease during your time here.
If EMDR therapy is something you’d like to explore for your child, I’d be happy to discuss this with you. For more details on EMDR, please see the EMDR page
Specialist therapy for children and young people who have experienced the care system
I have vast experience working with children and young people who have experienced the care system or adoption. I am comfortable working within multi-agency settings and can attend meetings with schools, social services or other involved professionals to ensure a collaborative approach for the young person’s wellbeing. Parent and carer support sessions are often recommended alongside therapy, and at times it may be important for you to be involved directly in the therapy if it will be beneficial for the process.
I have experience delivering therapeutic life story work and attachment focused therapy, helping young people and families process past experiences and strengthen their relationships.
Please get in touch to discuss this further.
How can I explain therapy to my child?
Sometimes we all have big or tricky feelings and need a bit of help with them. We might feel sad, cross, worries or scared. Sometimes we know why we feel this way, and sometimes we don’t - and that’s okay.
Therapy is a space where we can work things out together, and often over time things usually start to feel better. In our sessions we can talk, draw, play games or do activities to help you show how you feel. You don’t have to talk about anything you don’t want to.
